Every two years, in May, we have the privilege of running the Malvern Diabetic Foot meeting. The 2024 conference last month was the 20th meeting since its inception in 1986, and over three days engaged physicians, surgeons, podiatrists, orthotists, nursing staff and other allied health care professionals with a common interest in diabetic foot problems, and enabled delegates to connect with industry partners on the latest innovations and trends.

The conference is well-established as a leading event in the field, drawing on the expertise of specialists from around 30 countries including dozens of thought leaders from North America and Western Europe.

Global impact

Diabetic Foot disease is a devastating complication of diabetes which itself is at epic proportions, and globally a diabetic person dies every 7 seconds and a foot is amputated every 20 seconds.

Awareness of the complexity of the treatment of the disease started to increase in the 1980s, when the King’s College Hospital multidisciplinary foot clinic became the global example, and when this conference, the first dedicated to the topic was organised.

Every two years the conference improves current understanding of the disease, showcasing the latest research, and acting as a forum for the exchange of ideas.

Joint symposia

This year we hosted joint symposia with the UK’s Royal College of Podiatry, the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society, and the Vascular Society of Great Britain. Complemented by sessions on the clinical aspects of DF, neuropathy, epidemiology and biomechanics every aspect of the disease was addressed with eye-opening presentations detailing the latest data.

Practicing healthcare professionals can view the presentations on our OpenDialogue Med Ed hub at www.opendialogue.health along with the full multimedia of all of our events in Cardiology, Diabetes, Nephrology, Oncology, and Multiple Sclerosis.

The next Malvern Diabetic Foot conference will run from 13th – 15th May 2026, and we’d be pleased to see you there.
