After completing her medical studies at the University of Saarland/Germany in 2001, Dr. Jana Barinoff became a specialist in gynecology in 2006 and was awarded the additional title of Gynecological Oncologist in 2011.
Dr. Barinoff’s areas of interest include breast cancer research as well as basic cancer research with translational research. Of particular interest to her is the possibility of understanding the metastatic processes through studies of patients with primary metastatic breast cancer. Dr. Barinoff recently studied this group and published the first and only analyses of immune-histochemical characteristics of these tumors (Barinoff et al. EJC 2012). Additionally she studied the survival and dynamic of survival in these patients (Barinoff et al. JCT 2013).
Her current project will examine expression of secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC) in pmBC. This work is expected to lead to the development of novel therapeutic targets linked to predictive biomarkers. Dr. Barinoff has also participated in The German Breast Group since 2008 and has taken part in the design and administration of numerous clinical trials.
